MIDDELBURG – All eyes are on the Steve Tshwete matric class of 2024 to excel in the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination, which commenced on Monday, October 21, and will run until November 28, 2024.
Last year, the municipality came out on top of the 17 municipalities in the province, securing first place after 2,170 learners passed, resulting in an 89.5% pass rate.
Council Speaker, Thato Mathunyane, urged the matric candidates to redouble their efforts and avoid negative thoughts that might distract them from achieving their goals. “We have a shared responsibility to replicate the previous academic performance,” he said in a message dedicated to the Steve Tshwete matriculants.
“Educators have started, and continue, moulding you into becoming a better version of yourself. As a 2024 candidate, you should never take that for granted.”
Mathunyane added that the municipality will reward excellent academic performance. “The municipality will be offering bursary opportunities to those who obtain outstanding results in the final examinations, and many doors will open for higher learning,” he emphasised.
“I am here to remind all of you that STLM is looking forward to being invited in January 2025 to receive another award, thanks to the hard work of both the educators and the 2024 matric class. This is possible if you study hard and carefully choose the information you allow into your mental space, as well as the environment you expose yourself to.”
The Speaker also acknowledged that the year 2024 did not start without challenges. “But today, we take pride in saying that the half-yearly examinations and the preparatory exams were conducted under conducive conditions, without any electricity interruptions,” he said.
“You have persevered through the hardships of the last 12 years, for some even 14 or 15 years of schooling, and now you are here to reap what you have sown. For some of you, the journey was rough, but you did not give up. I give you credit. As the STLM municipality, we are extremely proud of you.”
