PHAKE– Team Sky will be hosting their 5th annual cycling challenge aimed to promote Healthy Lifestyle, contribute to keeping youth off the streets a replica of 94.7 cycle challenge at Dr JS Moroka.

The founders Moagi Madiba, Amo Mashishi and Ruphas Mmalebati born and raised in Phake together with other cycling team are inviting cyclists to attend and ride, even on modern bicycles, and those not wanting to cycle but who would like to donate can drop them off.

Moagi Madiba, one of the members of team sky said that him and Ruphas  started cycling at Cradle (Gauteng) during COVID to keep fit, and were later joined by a few friends.

Then as time went he started to enjoy cycling, having been introduced to it by the founder of Qubeka Antony Fitzhenry.

“We started noticing a lot of black people enjoying this sport which traditionally has been perceived as whites sport, we then decided to take it home and inspire more black youth to adopt, we have also identify families in need to contribute Christmas groceries and toys we will  give to kids we meet on the streets during the ride,” said Madiba.

At least 60 cyclists are expected on the day of the event and it’s  open to anybody who has a bicycle with a rule that  “No Helmet no ride”.

“It is a fun ride..seeing cyclists enjoying the ride and dedicating their time and resources to help families in need,” said Madiba

The event was very well supported in 2022 as they saw over 40 cyclist that year, and they donated to the less fortunate children to assist with their Christmas preparation . “We appeal to all members of the public to please support this initiative,” he said.

“Our Team  is very community-oriented, and we make it a point to make a difference in our community. And this is the best way we know how – to ride and make a difference,” concluded Madiba
