Three suspects from Emsagweni in Emalahleni have been arrested for illegal connections of electricity.
Emalahleni Local Municipality’s Technical Services, Finance, and the Law enforcement conducted the illegal connections removal and cut-off operations done by the three suspects. The municipality is committed in stopping the illegal electricity connections and demands the residents in Emalahleni (Emsagweni and Klarinet) to start paying bills for the municipal electricity.
The suspects were arrested and detained at the Vosman Police Station for Contravention of Criminal Matters Amendment Act for tempering with essential infrastructure.
The police said that more suspects are to be arrested as more houses were disconnected. One suspect is reportedly on the run after he allegedly reconnected the electricity after the local officials disconnected it. It has been also reported that on Monday 8 February, a similar case has been opened been opened and two other suspects relating to the case have been arrested in Klarinet. The police urge residents of Emalahleni to stop illegal electricity connections as it is also dangerous to their lives.
