DELMAS – Among local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), Thuma Mina Delmas Deliveries emerged victorious alongside Side By Side and Medu Enviro, each walking away with R250,000 to invest in their businesses. This funding was awarded following a pitching competition hosted by Exxaro and the Small Enterprise Development Agency, which saw over 50 local SMMEs participating.
Thuma Mina Delmas Deliveries, owned by Kagiso Nyakale (23), who is also the founder of Miss and Mr Visionary Delmas, began operating in November 2023 with one motorbike and currently employs two locals. Nyakale highlighted his goals after winning the pitching competition: “I aim to expand the business and enhance the areas we are lacking in. Having more scooters will create employment for qualified scooter drivers around Delmas and improve our delivery system. By creating websites and application software, we will offer more convenient and reliable services to our customers and all the companies we partner with.”
He further shared his aspirations for the next five years for his company: “My dream is for this company to grow to the level of Uber Eats, Takealot, Mr Delivery, and other large delivery companies. Collaborating with major retailers like Shoprite, Pick n Pay, and well-known food companies like Spur and McDonald’s would be a dream come true.”
“I have wanted to be a businessman since I was a child. Growing up, I always looked for opportunities where I could make money without facing competition. I had quite a few businesses in the past, and when I was still at TUT eMalahleni, I noticed a high demand for scooter delivery services. I realised that if I introduced this kind of business to my town, Delmas, it would meet a significant demand, as there were no similar services available.”
