A truck crashed into the Mdluli’s House on February 29, 2024, and the community insists that the driver was drunk. Rethabile Mdluli, the brother of the Mdluli household, explained what happened. “When the truck crashed, I was not at home. When I arrived, they told me the truck had come up from the street and then ran into my home. Even when I arrived, I found it inside my yard,” he emphasized.
He continued to say that Speaker Hendry Ngoma from the municipality also visited on Saturday and Sunday. “The Speaker, Hendry Ngoma, came on Saturday and Sunday, and he emphasised that they will build a house for us. The truck driver also said that he will replace the furniture of the house,” he said.
Puleng Mdluli, the sister, also added that the Speaker came on Sunday and offered them food. “The Speaker came again on Sunday and offered us food,” she said. She also stated that the truck driver was drunk. “To be honest, the truck driver was drunk, and the truck belongs to him, not any company. The truck owner resides on N12,” she added. She further explained that since the house was crashed, they no longer had a roof and had to use a tent found in the truck. “Since our house was crashed, the roof was wide open, so we had to use a tent that we found in the truck to cover the top of the house because it was raining the whole weekend,” she added.
Themba Mkwayi, a neighbor, added what he saw when the incident happened. “Luckily, when this incident happened, there were no elders, only children, and they did not get hurt. But what happened is very painful because these children could have died,” he said. He continued to say that what made him angry was that the truck driver was drunk on the day of the incident. “What makes me angry is that the truck driver was drunk on the day of the incident, and the cause of the incident is because of his drunkenness,” he emphasized. The Speaker, Hendry Ngoma, did not want to comment on this incident.
