DELMAS – In a heartwarming event that exemplifies the power of collaboration, on July 18, 2024, the Victor Khanye Local Municipality (VKLM), under the leadership of Mayor Vusi Buda, championed the donation of essential items to Vezimfundo Primary School. The event, held in celebration of Nelson Mandela Month, was a testament to the community’s dedication to fostering a supportive and thriving environment for its learners.
Buda highlighted the importance of partnerships in advancing the community’s development. “This partnership is a powerful demonstration of what we can achieve when we work together,” he said. “On behalf of all the stakeholders, I extend my gratitude to everyone involved.” Buda further called on the donors to contribute towards the establishment of a new high school in Botleng Ext 7, indicating that the municipality has donated land for this much-needed school. The new high school aims to address overcrowding in the current high schools. The event saw significant contributions from various stakeholders, including Ritluka, Eskom Kusile, Mancane, 1st Episode Trading, Malambula Nkopane, and TT Marketing. Eskom Kusile, along with its sub-contractor Honeywell, made a substantial donation that included a microwave, five steel cabinets, six office desks, twelve office chairs, five steel filing cabinets, and three wooden filing cabinets. Ritluka donated six buckets of paint, while other businesses contributed Typek papers, bulk toilet paper rolls, and other essential supplies.
Beyond the donations, everyone present contributed to painting the school’s palisades, demonstrating a hands-on commitment to improving the school’s facilities. VKLM Speaker Henry Ngoma echoed the sentiment of collaboration, emphasising the positive impact such initiatives have on the community. “We are proud to be part of this effort to enhance the educational environment for these young learners. This is just the beginning of what we hope will be an ongoing commitment to supporting our local schools.”
Mayor Buda also took a moment to remind everyone of Nelson Mandela’s vision for education. “It is not beyond our power to create a world in which all children have access to a good education,” he said, urging the community to continue working together towards this goal.
The event, hosted at Vezimfundo Primary School, was attended by learners, teachers, stakeholders, and media representatives. It was not only a celebration of generosity but also a call to action.
