EMALAHLENI – The South African Police Service (SAPS) hosted a vibrant Youth Day commemoration event on Wednesday, 18 June 2025, at Hoërskool Hertzog Sports Ground in eMalahleni.

The occasion was not only a celebration of the historic 16 June but also a meaningful initiative aimed at reigniting and strengthening partnerships with sister departments and private stakeholders, all united in the spirit of community service and collaboration.

With an estimated attendance of 350 expected, the event exceeded expectations with a turnout of over 500 participants, including SAPS members, government departments, and local organisations. The day was marked by high energy, community spirit and healthy competition through various sporting activities including soccer, netball, volleyball, and aerobics.

Participating teams included Vosman SAPS, eMalahleni Local Municipality, eMalahleni Traffic Department, Department of Correctional Services, and eMalahleni FM.

The sports competitions added an exciting dynamic to the event, with teams battling for gold, silver, and bronze trophies. In the final results, Vosman SAPS walked away with the soccer trophy, while eMalahleni Local Municipality dominated in both the netball and volleyball categories.

The event was proudly hosted by the SAPS Vosman Youth Empowerment Forum, led by Khethiwe Mashiyane and Nhlamulo Malungane, with the leadership and full support of Brigadier Ndlovu.

Speaking on the event’s success, organiser Khethiwe Mashiyane expressed her appreciation: “The event was a great success, and we hope to have more such gatherings where stakeholders come together as one. We are grateful to Hoërskool Hertzog for allowing us to use their beautiful grounds and supporting us throughout the day.”

She added, “We thank all the invited stakeholders for honouring our invitation and being such great sports. Our sincere appreciation also goes to our commander, Brigadier Ndlovu, for believing in the idea and supporting it through to success. Halala to all our sponsors, your support and willingness to embrace the vision made this event possible.”

The SAPS extends its heartfelt thanks to the Community Policing Forum (CPF) members, wardens, and all stakeholders for their unwavering support and contribution to the success of the day.

The Youth Day event not only encouraged camaraderie and fun, but also reinforced the importance of unity and cooperation in building stronger, safer communities.
