KWAMHLANGA – Thembisile Hani municipality, in collaboration with Ikwekwezi FM, hosted the highly anticipated Zikhakhazise Ngesikhethu Cultural Fair at the KwaMhlanga Showground on March 29, 2025. The event was a vibrant celebration of culture, arts, and heritage, bringing together talented artists, local vendors, and attendees dressed in colorful traditional attire. The fair featured dynamic artistic performances, a marketplace filled with unique local products, and a platform for cultural exchange among community members. Visitors were treated to an array of traditional dances, musical performances, and handcrafted items that showcased the rich heritage of the Ndebele people. One of the event’s highlights was renowned Ndebele beadwork and umgwalo artist, Sophy Mahlangu, affectionately known as Gogo UNoSinky. She expressed her excitement about participating in the fair, stating, “I am very happy to be here, displaying my hard work. Being invited and having the opportunity to speak with the mayor makes me feel valued in this country.” Mahlangu further emphasized the importance of such cultural events, encouraging Ikwekwezi FM and Thembisile Hani Local Municipality to continue hosting the fair annually. According to her, the event serves as a significant platform for artists to connect and showcase their craftsmanship.
The fair also attracted enthusiastic supporters, including local resident Sphiwe Mahlangu, who shared her joy about attending. “I’m thrilled to be here, especially watching artists perform. Seeing Makhadzi on stage was a highlight for me. I also made sure to support the beadwork artisans by purchasing some of their beautiful creations,” she said. Mahlangu hopes the event will become an annual tradition, adding that next year she plans to bring her family along, as she found the fair to be a family-friendly experience.
The Zikhakhazise Ngesikhethu Cultural Fair proved to be more than just a celebration—it was a unifying event that brought people together, fostering cultural pride and economic opportunities for local artists.
