DELMAS – Delmas Grade 12s were treated to a motivational event on Thursday, February 22 at the Builders Church. All the 5 five high school’s seniors were in attendance, except for those from Delmas HoĆ«rskool. Pastor Thulani Motsogi from Builders Church kicked things off by explaining the event’s purpose.

“First, I want to thank our pastors for letting us share God’s word with you guys at school,” he said. “Most of you know each other from primary school, and about three years ago we started a Grade 12 tour. For the past few years, we’ve been visiting schools to motivate Grade 12s just like you.”

Growing up in Delmas, Pastor Motsogi acknowledged the limitations faced by students in the Victor Khanye Local Municipality (VKLM). “We know there are limitations growing up here,” he said. “That’s why we called people who grew up in Delmas and went to the same schools as you to inspire you with their success stories.”

The event wasn’t just about pep talks. Racheal Ngwenya, the circuit manager, gave a detailed breakdown of the previous year’s matric results for the Victor Khanye Circuit. In 2023, the circuit achieved a noteworthy pass rate of 78.8%, showcasing a remarkable increase of over 6% compared to the 72.5% pass rate in 2022.  She then announced the ambitious goal of a 100% pass rate pledge from the Class of 2024.

“The province wants an 85% pass rate,” she said, “but we’re aiming higher! No one in the Victor Khanye circuit will fail!”

Melisizwe Notwala, representing the University of Johannesburg, offered insights into university admissions. He spoke about the competitive landscape and stressed the importance of achieving strong results to secure a spot. Notwala further encouraged the learners to aim for top marks for a better chance of securing a university spot.

The event concluded with a powerful sermon and prayer from Builders Church Pastor Mazote Msipha, offering spiritual guidance and encouragement to the learners as they face their final exams.

The hugely successful event left Delmas High School’s Grade 12s feeling motivated, inspired, and ready to tackle their studies with renewed determination.
