DELMAS – Three Nigerian nationals, aged between 30 and 39, were arrested in Delmas on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, during a police operation targeting drug dealers in the central business district (CBD).

The operation, conducted following weeks of surveillance, resulted in the seizure of a substantial amount of narcotics, including cocaine, mandrax, crystal methamphetamine, methcathinone (CAT), dagga, and heroin.

The estimated street value of the confiscated drugs and paraphernalia is a staggering R16,550.

This significant drug bust comes as a relief to residents of Delmas, particularly those living in areas like Botleng and Delpark, who have long complained about the growing drug problem in the CBD.

Thabo Mokoena, a local business owner whose shop is situated near one of the alleged drug dens, expressed concern about the impact of drug-related activities on businesses and the overall safety of the community.

“This is a victory for our community,” Mokoena said. “The drug dealers have been terrorising us for far too long. Their activities were driving away customers and creating a sense of fear and insecurity.”

The arrest of the three Nigerian nationals, who were also found to be in the country illegally, sends a strong message to those involved in the illicit drug trade.

The trio is expected to appear in the Delmas District Court on Friday, January 24, 2025, facing charges related to drug dealing and immigration violations.

The Delmas SAPS has vowed to continue its efforts to combat the drug trade and maintain the safety and security of the community.
