The Nkabinde family’s harrowing ordeal has finally come to an end as their beloved daughter, 20-year-old Buhle Nkabinde, has been safely reunited with them after being kidnapped earlier this year.
The community of Vosman extension 17 in Emalahleni was in a state of shock when Buhle went missing in January, only to be found on Monday, March 4.
The family’s anguish during her disappearance was intense, especially since she was last seen innocently heading to the market to buy vegetables for her grandmother.
However, the dark cloud that loomed over the Nkabinde family has now lifted with Buhle’s return, bringing immense relief and gratitude to all those involved in her safe recovery.
Adding to the family’s anguish is the revelation that Buhle is a survivor of a previous traumatic experience, having been a victim of rape at the age of 19.
Speaking with the Highveld Chronicle, Thokozani Vilakazi who is a brother to Buhle said, “ I am so happy that she’s finally home even thou you can tell she is not okay. There’s alot of fear in her eyes.”
“She told us what happened to her and where she was kidnapped. At the moment as a family we chose not to disclose too much information because the police are still investigating this. All I can say is that we will like to thank the community and the police for assisting.” he explained.
“We do want justice to be served. My sister she’s not okay even emotionally. She has experienced rape twice now at her age, it is very painful.” he expressed.
“Buhle is a victim of rape , she was raped by our eldest sister’s husband who is currently locked in jail for rape and waiting for his sentencing on May 5 in the next coming months. Ever since he has been arrested we have been receiving threats as the family that we will never find peace. We were worried about her disappearance.” he added.
Buhle’s grandmother, Elase Nkabinde said, “ I thought I have lost her forever. I thank God that she is home, but I will not rest until justice is served. She has been through so much.”
Vosman EFF PR Councillor, Annah Maseremula said, “ To the community of Emalahleni we must not be quite in situations like this. Community must stand together and fight this crime in our area. The issue of kidnapping is becoming a problem.”
“We should not be quite about this as a community. Also we must not take the law into our hands. We must engage with the police. We are happy that Buhle is with her family now.” she added.
Vosman police captain, Vusi Mnisi who did confirm that they are aware about this case said, “ We are aware about this case. We have received a recording of where the girl contacted her family saying that she’s in a shack and being injected with drugs everyday.”
“ No arrests had been made yet. We are still investigating this matter.”he added.
