MPUMALANGA – Renowned sports administrator, Linda Zwane, has been re-elected as president of the Mpumalanga Sport Confederation (MSC) for another four-year term, with a renewed mandate to elevate provincial sport development. This followed a ceremony held at the Middelburg Regional Library on 1 February 2025. MEC for the Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation, Leah Mabuza commended the MSC for its significant role in advancing sport in the province.

Speaking at the MSC’s Quadrennial Congress Meeting, the MEC said, “The Department has the responsibility for the development of sport throughout the province, and our work is made much easier by having structures such as the Mpumalanga Sport Confederation. We also wish to extend our profound thanks to all affiliates who are playing a key role in the delivery of sport programmes in the province.”

Zwane, who is also the deputy president of the South African Football Association (SAFA), spoke to the Highveld Chronicle about the confidence shown in his leadership. “Our aim is to revive the Mpumalanga Academy of Sport, as this is the best way to provide athlete support. Over the years, I believe we’ve been short-changing the athletes of this province, so we need to streamline that and ensure there is a functional Academy of Sport working with other partners. Of course, we have the likes in LowMed [Lowmed Health and Sports Performance Centre] in the Lowveld, which focuses on high performance, so we need to partner with them and ensure that we can effectively implement athlete support.”

The full MSC Committee includes:

President: Linda Zwane

First Vice-President: Sergeant Skosana

Second Vice-President: Christel van Wetten

Additional Members:

Jabu Nzima, Xolani Gumede, Eunice Sibeko, Melony Degenaar, Cylvia Pieterse, MS Maribe, Emile van Veenhuyzen, George Stanton, and Oupa Zitha.
