Tweefontein community demands #JusticeforMonica after brutal killing
TWEEFONTEIN C – Mpumalanga police have launched a manhunt for two suspects believed to be behind the cold-blooded murder of a 37-year-old mother in Tweefontein C, under the Thembisile Hani Local Municipality.
Monica Skhosana was reportedly gunned down by two assailants who entered her parents’ home under false pretences on the evening of Friday, April 11, 2025, at around 7pm.
Tragically, Monica succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, while her 11-year-old daughter survived the horrific ordeal.
Speaking to Highveld Chronicle, Monica’s older sister, Busi Skhosana, said she was on a phone call with the deceased at the time of the attack. “She told me there were two men outside trying to get into her room,” she recalled.
Busi said she then heard the suspects interrogating the child about Monica’s whereabouts. “While we were talking, I suddenly heard Monica scream, followed by disturbing noises that sounded like gunshots,” she said.
After several failed attempts to reach her sister again, Busi decided to rush to the house. “I kept calling but she wasn’t answering. I also called my mother and my other sister, but no one picked up. That’s when I decided to drive to Tweefontein C,” she said.
“When I arrived, I found Monica’s lifeless body lying on the floor with gunshot wounds. Her daughter was also injured during the incident and was rushed to KwaMhlanga Hospital,” she added.
Busi further revealed that this was not the first time the suspects had approached Monica. “On Friday, April 04, at around 9pm, two men pretended to be customers interested in buying or renting some of Monica’s beadwork. We turned them away, saying it was too late,” she said.
While the motive behind the killing remains unclear, Mpumalanga police have confirmed that a case has been opened. “We are investigating a case of murder for Monica and attempted murder for her daughter,” said police spokesperson Jabu Ndubane.
Ndubane also urged the public to assist in removing illegal firearms from communities. “If you know of anyone in possession of an unlicensed firearm, please report them. You can go to the nearest police station, use the My SAPS app, or call our crime tip-off line on 086 00 10111,” she said.
The tragic incident has sparked outrage in the community, prompting locals to launch a Facebook campaign under the hashtag #JusticeforMonica.
The suspects remain at large as investigations continue.
