MIDDELBURG – The opening of the KwaZamokuhle Thusong Service Centre in Hendrina signals the municipality’s commitment to enhancing service delivery for its residents.

In the near future, another Thusong Service Centre, with an estimated value of R11 million, is set to be unveiled to the community of Rockdale, located adjacent to the N4 highway. The project is currently over 90% complete and includes a fire station as an essential component, alongside a library, payment facility, auditorium, and administrative building.

“As assured during my recent State of the Municipal Address, I pledged that this facility would be officially handed over to you in September, granting access to a variety of services,” stated Mayor Mhlonishwa Masilela during the opening of the KwaZamokuhle Thusong Service Centre on Wednesday, 25 September 2024.

“In our Integrated Development Plan (IDP), we committed to establishing additional Thusong Service Centres. This marks the fulfilment of that commitment, and we are not halting our efforts here,” affirmed Masilela, flanked by council members, ward committees, municipal manager Mandla Mnguni, municipal officials, and local tribal leaders.

“We do not merely talk service delivery; we walk the talk.”

Commencing construction in January 2021, the cutting-edge facility, valued at R30 million, was completed on 20 June 2024. Comprising a community auditorium, municipal payment services point, and library, the centre is designed to cater to the escalating population within the municipal precinct, addressing the surging demands for service delivery and facilitating convenient access to a plethora of amenities at the Thusong Service Centre.

“We are aiming to collaborate with entities such as SASSA, Home Affairs, and other governmental departments to extend their services to this location.”

Masilela also urged residents to safeguard all community infrastructure. “I implore you not to deface or damage the facilities. Residents should not have to undertake lengthy journeys to avail themselves of essential services,” he emphasized.
