“Not all Polo drivers are bad drivers”
MIDDELBURG – A group of VW Polo drivers shared warm winter meals with the needy and less fortunate people of Middelburg.
On Saturday, June 8, The 1050 Polo Fanatics showcased a spirit of generosity when they organised a Winter Food Drive for the people of Mhluzi, Nasareth and Doornkop.
Stationed at various locations including Joubert Park, Doornkop and Mhluzi taxi ranks, they dished out tasty meals to scores of people in an around town.
A crew member who introduced himself as Stebona Kabzn, for reasons known only to him, explained that the group aims to unite VW Polo drivers and change the general perceptions of these drivers through positive community engagement. “Perceptions that polo drivers are generally restless, are not untrue. They are just blanket statements based on how other Polo drivers conduct themselves on the road,” he said.
The crew was founded in February 2024, and had their first event, “Stance in the Garden Winter Edition,” at Ukhamba Industrial Park on April 27.
They have a summer edition planned for October this year.
“These food drives will be a monthly event,” Kabzn added.
“The drive’s success was made possible through generous contributions from Junxion Lifestyle, community members, and the dedicated crew of The 1050 Polo Fanatics,” he told the paper.
He also said they are planning a charity initiative for Mandela Day focusing on purchasing school supplies, uniforms, and shoes for underprivileged children.
He went on to assure the community of another charity drive next month, which will include distribution of clothing.
Another group member, Lindokuhle Sibiya, articulated the group’s mission as follows, “We come together not just to give, but to transform lives. Every act of generosity, no matter how small, creates a ripple of hope and change.”
The Winter Food Drive appears to exemplify the impact of a united community with ongoing efforts from The 1050 Polo Fanatics and support from Middelburg residents, there is hope for those in need.
