DELMAS – The case of the Victor Khanye Local Municipality, Khaya Robert Segone, has been postponed to 16 July for further investigation by Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Matrix Lupondo.
Lupondo will reportedly be investigating the solidity of the cases before they are presented for trial as a high profile matter should be analysed and DPP has to know what transpires as the cases might furthermore end up at the High Court.
At the onset in November Segone was facing a total of 17 criminal charges. Other cases have allegedly been withdrawn by the complainants. Segone’s court trial was transferred to the regional court on 14 January with a schedule 6 offence, robbery with aggravating circumstances at the Delmas Magistrate’s Court.
The case was postponed with bail extension. In January the National Prosecuting Authority challenged Segone’s bail via the Middleburg High Court which the judgment favoured him and the bail remained. The prosecution wants to apprehend other suspects involved in the other offences that Segone allegedly acted on with his accomplices. Moses ‘Strike’ Maokane is one of the identified co-accused who stood side by side with Segone on 18 March in the dock before the magistrate at the Demas Court.
Maokane is also facing another charge of attempted murder which was postponed to 22 June. Two witnesses, Doctor Thandi Mdhluli and a professional nurse, Angeline Nkuna, were called to the witness stand to present evidence on why Maokane was absent in court on 18 November and 20 January 2020 respectively. Nkuna’s evidence was not convincing to the state as the accused was registered on an undated scanning tool at the health facility not proving the exact date of visitation.
